Rancho (Aamir Khan) — a brilliant engineering student who prefers to gain practical rather than theoretical knowledge — disappears after graduating with the highest rank from an engineering college. Years later, his two college friends (R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi) get clue of his where'abouts from fellow student and rival Chatur (Omi Vaidya), which kick starts their journey to find Rancho. They are joined by Chatur and Rancho's former love interest, Pia (Kareen Kapoor).
