Two Special Task Force officers and partners, Javed Abbas (Jackie Shroff) and Arun Verma (Shah Rukh Khan), are also very good friends. During a drug raid, Javed is shot dead by an unknown assailant, and Arun discovers that Javed's will requests him to take of his kids when he's no more. Arun takes the guardianship of Javed's four orphaned kids, while also balancing his ongoing relationship with Geeta (Juhi Chawla). During all this, he is also investigating Javed's murder.
